With a view of the corporate commitment to research and develop innovative techniques in the wind measurements and site characterization of wind farms while maintaining quality standards of reliability and precision, Tecnogaia has developed, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan, a methodology for using Sodar technology, a project funded by the Lombardy Region.
Tecnogaia adopts the sodar technology in combination with the traditional mid-height wind mast (40-50m), for the quantification of the wind resource at high altitudes from the ground.
The application of sodar technology makes possible to specify the actual energy potential at the hub height of the wind turbines, thus reducing the uncertainties of the wind measurement and estimate of the expected energy production of a wind farm, with consequent economic advantages for the various “actors” of the sector.
